Soju Hokari

Biography

Soju Hokari (she/her) began playing ultimate in 7th grade in her hometown of Eugene, OR. Her dominant career took off at South Eugene High School. She continued her standout stint in the Northwest when she led Oregon Downpour to a U-20 YCC National Championship in 2021. Soju then took her talents to Atlanta, where she has competed with Emory Luna (D-I college), Atlanta Ozone (Top Select Club) and Atlanta Soul (PUL). At Emory, she has served as captain of Luna for two years and was awarded Luna’s POTY in 2023 and 2024. Soju was also named to Ultiworld’s D-I College Southeast All-Region First Team in 2023 and 2024. In the club scene, Soju was named 2nd Runner-Up for Women’s Club Breakout Player of the Year in 2022. She also led the women’s division in blocks at Club Nationals in 2022, with 12 D’s recorded throughout the tournament. Soju serves on USAU’s LGBTQ+ advisory council and has contributed immensely to policy changes to protect transgender athletes amidst legislation threatening their safe and equitable participation. Outside of ultimate, Soju is graduating with a BA in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies with Highest Honors. Soju has utilized her studies to drive meaningful DEI efforts on Luna, across Emory, and around Georgia. She is a student staff member for the Office of LGBT Life, leading enriching programming for hundreds of students. Her research and advocacy for transgender athletes in GA has challenged lawmakers and restored hope for the future of LGBTQ+ inclusion in athletics.
