Biography
As Ultiworld would say, “the Sandy Wu experience” is defined by effortless high-release flicks and backhands, monster skies, and unbelievable D’s. She catches everything, at any height, and often hits the eject button from the handle space and streaks deep. While Iron Horse uses her as a key handler in our systems, she can also contribute in the cutter space. Her talents have not gone unrecognized.
At the age of 16, she played for China’s U20 national team. In undergrad, she played with Rice’s men’s team her freshman year, and switched to women’s her sophomore year. That year, she led Rice Torque to D3 Nationals. There, she tallied 23 assists, 27 blocks, and 9 goals, earning herself Ultiworld’s D3 Breakout Player of the Year and second-team All-American accolades while practicing for Austin Torch.
Sandy has not slowed. After her time at Rice, she began PT school at WashU and had a similar impact on WashU’s Iron Horse. This season, Sandy has assisted on 42% of the points she has played, and she still leads the team in D’s, with a total of 17 D’s across 11 games. Off the field, Sandy runs a Stellar baking account (ironically, the name of the St. Louis club team she played on for last summer).
