Biography

Carly Atwell has been a driving force in the ultimate community since she first picked up a disc. Beginning her journey at Kealing Middle School, she continued as a standout player and captain for LASA High School (2015–2020) then earning a spot on the 2019 Texas All-State First Team. Carly also competed with Texas Tango for YCC. Her early impact extended into the club scene, playing mixed with Moontower (2018) and Waterloo (2021), establishing herself as a key presence in Texas Ultimate. In 2020, Carly was named to the U20 Team USA roster, though the team was unable to compete due to the pandemic.
Moving to Utah for college, Carly quickly became a core hybrid for the University of Utah’s Spiral Jetty (2020-2025). She also made the PUL team Austin Torch in 2021, continuing her competitive rise into professional ultimate. While captaining SJU (2024–25), she led the team to its first-ever College Nationals appearance and top-20 ranking. Beyond college, Carly plays women’s club with Dark Sky (2023-present) where she was the offensive MVP this past season. Additionally, she plays professionally for the Utah Wild (2023, 2025), adding to her impressive playing résumé.
Carly is widely respected as one of the nation’s top deep defenders and a visionary thrower. Beyond her playing, she uplifts the community through coaching—supporting high school teams (West HS, UT), youth camps (TUSC, Austin), and club teams (Austin Heatstroke). Carly Atwell’s dedication to competitive excellence and community growth makes her a deserving Callahan nominee.
