Biography

Gavin “Grussy” Russell has been in a committed, healthy relationship with competitive Ultimate since 2014, but he had a childhood crush on her since birth. Gruss has been a star from the start, playing on a high school team starting in 6th grade! A few years later as his height and heart grew, he captained his high school team and eventually coached middle school. Over the 2016-2018 summers, Grussy threw the hammer down on opposing teams with NC Hammer, captaining during the 2018 season. The following summer, other teams tried their best to stop him and Triforce.
Gavvy joined Gamecock Ultimate during his sophomore year, and within six months was elected captain and won offensive MVP. It took him so long to join GCU because he got hit by a train – he’s fine now, but the train got destroyed by Gav’s 6’3”, 180lb frame. Anyhoo… Grussy won the hearts of every GCU member with his bids, throws, and innocent yet freaky energy. Outside of school Ultimate, Gav regularly plays pickup, goaltimate, and with the club team Lost Boys. Most notably, he plays on the highly competitive RDU, including at club nationals in San Diego last autumn.
If it wasn’t already obvious, Gavilicious is a super cool kitten! He can run a sub-five minute mile, loves anime, and probably volunteers with sick children. Post-college, Gavin the GOAT plans on obliterating a half ironman and pursuing a career in financial advising with Prudential. What can’t this man do?
