USA Ultimate to Administer Callahan Award Beginning in 2018

Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 9, 2018) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, is excited to announce a new partnership with the Callahan Award. USA Ultimate will begin administering the award this year.

The Callahan Award was founded by Charles Kerr in 1996 and is named in honor of Henry Callahan, one of the sport’s early players and organizers. Each year, the Callahan is awarded to the most valuable players in college ultimate. Award nominees display superior skill and athleticism, but the award goes a step further than that.

In addition to their on-field success, winners of the Callahan Award also demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship, leadership and dedication to ultimate – personifying Spirit of the Game. Players are nominated by their teams or by their regional coordinators, and the award is voted on by current college players, meaning Callahan Award winners have also earned the respect of their peers.

Nominations for the 2018 Callahan Award will open tomorrow, April 10, and close at 11:59 p.m. MT on Monday, April 30. All college teams, as well as USA Ultimate regional coordinators, are eligible to nominate one player. Nominees must be submitted by April 30 for the player to be considered. To submit your team’s nominee, visit collegechampionships.usaultimate.org beginning tomorrow, April 10.

• Men’s Division Award
• Women’s Division Award

Voting will be open from Tuesday, May 1, through Tuesday, May 22. All current college players are eligible to vote, using their USA Ultimate member accounts.

A big thanks goes out to Skyd Magazine and UltiCentral for their work in administering the award over the last several years.

Winners will be announced at the 2018 USA Ultimate College Championships in Milwaukee, Wis., over Memorial Day weekend.
