Bianca “Yanc” Champenois is a “glue player,” a culture setter and the heart and soul of the Pie Queens. From a competitive youth soccer background to a talented mechanical engineering career wrapped in high notes of hilarity and levity, Yanc brings it all. She has anchored the handler lines with one year on the Tarts and two years on the Queens. She experiments, takes risks, and leads with hard work and sharp decision making. Yanc knows when to light the fire under the team and when to celebrate the team’s success – what the team has defined together. Any player could learn from her – she is constantly eager to grow, asks questions, gives feedback and practices mental toughness. Her selflessness and dedication to the program is unmatched. Last fall, her goal was to recruit so much that the Pie Queens would win nationals in four years, long after she’d be gone.
Always daring to leave us and start her own goalty or boot league, we will miss Yanc immensely next year (have fun at MIT!). But, she has made it very easy to follow in her footsteps – work relentlessly to improve individually, contribute as much to the team as you can and connect with your teammates and community with genuine love and respect. We are not the only ones who feel this way! Yanc has played abroad in Mexico with Los Cabritos Salvajes and in Germany with the Seagulls, always bringing back new ideas for the Pie Queens.
We are proud Yanc represents the UC Berkeley Pie Queens alongside the many other inspiring nominees. #PQ4L!View Nominee Video
