Biography
Stephen Abel hails from Cumberland, Maine, where he began his ultimate frisbee career in 4th grade. It starting with attending frisbee camps, trainings, and eventually playing on his middle school travel team. He continued to play through high school, winning three state championships. Once he got his diploma, he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and began his degree in psychology at LSU. He made an immediate impact on Purple Haze, playing a key role on O-line his freshman year, where his polished throws and high IQ stood out. He continued playing on O-line his sophomore year, stepping into a starting role, where he helped quarterback the offense and let his work ethic lead others by example. He was voted to be a captain his junior year, where Purple Haze had its best post-season finish since the pandemic. During his final year of undergrad, he captained the team for a second time and solidified his legacy as one that future leaders of the program could follow. Stephen has always been a fantastic athlete, an excellent frisbee player, and a fierce friend; our program could not be more proud to nominate him for the Callahan award this year.
Stephen’s post-grad plans include pursuing a graduate degree in sports psychology and continuing his competitive frisbee career for the rest of his life.
