Biography
Nate Astrom is from Ocala, Florida, and started playing ultimate frisbee when living in the Dominican Republic. The culture, people, and competitive environment kept him playing through high school, and he attended the University of Minnesota for his freshman year of college. After playing with Minnesota Grey Duck, he transferred to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Over the next three years, he led Illinois Rise to three competitive seasons at the top of the region, competing closely for a trip to Nationals each year.
In the club scene, Nate has competed with Chicago Trident, Haymaker, and Machine. He was part of both Machine teams that earned silver at Club Nationals, and he helped lead Haymaker to 2nd in the Great Lakes. He will be competing with Machine at Club Worlds this coming summer. Nate also competed with Chicago Union for two seasons. In his first year, he was top-4 in the league in blocks, earning First Team All-Rookie, Second Team All-Defense, and Union Defensive MVP.
Nate values his time with Illinois Rise above all else in his frisbee career. Playing with his best friends every day has powered him through consistent bouts with injury, and the memories from his college days will inspire his play in the future. He says he owes the Rise program everything for believing in him and giving him the tools to be great.
